About Imbolc

Imbolc marks the beginning of spring. It is held around the 1st - 2nd February, at the half-way point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. Imolc was originally a pagan festival associated with the goddess Brigid. In ancient times it was though that Brigid, the goddess of fire & fertility, would visit one's home on the eve of Imbolc. People would make a bed for Brigid and leave food outside for her to bless. Later Imbolc practices involved the making of straw Brigid's crosses and dolls. Imbolc is one of the eight festivals, or sabbats, celebrated in the Pagan / Wiccan ‘Wheel of the Year’.
